Matt Cutts on Reciprocal Linking

Brett:
People are all about links but then there's a concern about linking to bad neighborhoods. How do you identify bad neighborhoods? Should you nofollow them or stay away totally?

Matt:
Use your gut. Trading links is natural and it's natural to have reciprocal links. At some level, natural reciprocal links happen, but if you do it way too often, it looks artificial. My advice is to go with your gut and if you're worried, you can use nofollow.

The Game Is On!!!

January 17th, 2007 by admin

One more SEO championship started on the 15th of January. The guys from seoworldchampionship.com suggested “globalwarming awareness2007” to be the keyword for site optimization.

This very blog was initially planned to have another URL and structure, but let me tell the whole story :)

January 15th, 12.45 PM EST, I’m waiting for the keyword to be announced. Everyone wants to get the keyword in his/her URL, you know. I’m not an exception. Domain seller’s site is on the screen and it is almost time for the fun, but I look at my watch and see it’s 13.00 already – no notification email received yet. Refresh button on the main page of the site – here it is. Globalwarming awareness2007 – I’ve been waiting for you for so long!! :) Ctrl+C, tab switch in my broweser, ctrl+v in the domain seller’s site feild and…Oh, noooo!!! all “globalwarming awareness2007” domains are already sold out!!! org, com, net, info – I can’t believe it!!! Less than 2 minutes passed and I’m a bit of looser at the very beginning :)

Calm down, man. There should be other top SEO-ranking variants available…..should, but…the same story :( Am I so slow?! That’s it. Unfortunately, but I’m not a man to say “I’m looser”!!!

We’ll find another way! :) Let’s make it fun and play the game with www.nokeywordinurl.com! Why not?! We are all aware that keywords in sites’ URLs play a significant role for ranking. The more relevant the URL is to the aiming keywords of a site the more chances that your page will be higher in Google, MSN or Yahoo SERPs are. But what if not to follow the strategy?

Here the “no keyword in URL” is born! :) I’ll try to create a page, more a less relevant to the topic declared (if we can consider it a real topic) and follow the white-seo strategies only to prove (rather reprove) that even in case your everywhere-relevant-pages are really ok, search engines prefer those who wake up earlier and get the right domain names quicker!!! Besides, I’ll try to cover the site inspection of the leaders and find some tricky steps that can be of interest for many others.
Good luck to all the participants and my heartiest congratulations to the Italian team with their www.globalwarming-awareness2007.com!! Let’s play the game! :)
