It’s Sunday and the 6th day of the race. Today’s observations showed www.e-globalwarming-awareness2007.com/ to be number 1 in Google. I’ve made up my mind to compare our pages and reveal the differencies which affect site’s Google position.

So, here we start with keyword density in:

  1. Titles. Both sites have “Globalwarming awareness2007″.
  2. Body text. “Globalwarming awareness2007″ makes up 4.4% of the overall amount of words used on the page for www.e-globalwarming-awareness2007.com/, while www.nokeywordinurl.com has the index of 2.9% only.
  3. Meta keywords. Here I’m loosing for sure and as a result should not be high in MSN, which prefers keyword stuffing in meta tags. So, my competitor has 47.1% versus 14.3% of mine.
  4. Meta description. Absolute equality: 14.3%.
  5. H1 headline text. I don’t have them at all (need to be fixed). 100% at www.e-globalwarming-awareness2007.com/.
  6. H2 headline text. It’s much better: 9.1% and my 12.5% – makes me smile a little bit :)
  7. Link URLs. 0.9% to 2.5%! I’m more quotable!
  8. Image ALT attributes. As I don’t have them at all – my score is 0! www.e-globalwarming-awareness2007.com/ has 70% index.
  9. HTML Comment Tags. 14.8% VS 0% :( Don’t even know what to say here…
  10. Web Page Parts Combined. Comparing the amount of all words on the pages we have the next image: www.e-globalwarming-awareness2007.com/ – 170 of 1996 (8.5%), and www.nokeywordinurl.com’s – 46 of 1585 (2.9%).

Much work has to be done. I’ll try to insert images and write a more stuffed content, but still won’t use keywords in urls.

Hey, it’s a real rush!!!! I could not expect such a boost in ranking results for Google!!! There are 197,000 (more) pages indexed by Google according to my results. Not bad, really!

The standing is as follows:

I’ve decided to shorten my list as the changes for Yahoo! and MSN are not so severe. Once a week I’ll be posting results for these search engines along with a more detailed report on SEO techniques and elements used for optimization.

By the way, nokeywordinurl.com is №128 in Google, and no results in MSN and Yahoo! yet.

It’s the second round of indexing “in-contest” pages by the search engines and it’s time to frame some kind of comparison table.

First of all, I’d like to describe the core principles the table will be based on.

  1. The key phrase will be searched for without using quotation marks, i.e. I’ll put the raw phrase -globalwarming awareness2007- into the search bar.
Why? ‘Cause, let’s imagine our term is a brand name (as some guys for the contest tried to imagine) and put ourselves in an average man’s place. Those who search for “adidas shoes” will type in just adidas shoes – no marks, no special signs for a more narrower search results. I doubt more than 20-30 percent of search engines users make use of these techniques. That is why it’s our choice.
  2. The table will contain the data about back links to the page.
Essential thing for PR boost and, consequently – better results in SERPs.
  3. Page Rank.
Not too helpful at the moment as all the “clean” sites participating have domain names registered on the 15th of January – nice part of the contest. I will be waiting for the results of Page Rank update with a more exited feeling – who will get the highest PR? – Time will show.
  4. Keyword density.
Will be monitored throughout the page: body text, meta keywords, meta description,
H1 text, all link texts, IMG alt attributes, overall amount compared to the number of all the words on the page.
  5. And, for sure – the position of the page in Google, Yahoo!, MSN.
In plain words – the aim of any search engine optimization process. This contest is not an exception!
  6. All the rest will be added later – as it requires more spare time (I’m in lack of).

So, here are the results we can see on the SERPs 18.01.07.
***I’m working on this thing from Belarus, i.e. the results can be different due to the differences of search engine data centers results.

High competition: 56.400 results in Google, 270 in MSN and 613 in Yahoo!. Google is the “target-leader” at the moment. The further info will be published a bit later (I need time to get the info:))

Here I am going to publish the reports on sites’ positions in major search engines. It’s not still clear for me how, but I will try to make the comparison table sufficient and readable.
